Our Journey

Wild Tour Albania is the story of a family, a lake, and a dream that grew through decades of change.

Our roots go back to the late 1980s, when communism was collapsing and Lake Koman had just been formed. Water transport became the lifeline of remote mountain villages, and our family embraced this opportunity, running boats that carried wood, supplies, and people across the lake.

The 1990s were turbulent years for Albania, marked by fragile democracy, economic collapse, and the unrest of 1997. Yet through it all, the lake remained central to life. In the early 2000s, when many Albanians emigrated, we stayed. With support from OXFAM, we began collecting herbs, honey, and forest fruits, showing how this remote region could sustain itself. Our first boat was ingeniously built from a converted gas tank — not glamorous, but it worked, and it carried both goods and our first curious travelers.

By 2005, we started experimenting with tours, welcoming adventurous visitors who discovered the untouched beauty of Lake Koman. Tourism was still new to us, but we believed in the potential of this place. The turning point came in the 2010s, when Albania became safer and more open to travelers. Locals who once relied on hard labor in the forests found new opportunities in tourism, and by 2016, our family decided to dedicate ourselves fully to this path.

Today, Wild Tour Albania is run by a team of brothers:

  • Fatmir & Kristjan manage transfers with Shkoder to Valbona via Komani Lake.
  • Genti and Fred operate the boats to Shala River.
  • Ardit, the youngest, leads tours and connects with travelers worldwide, utilizing his skills as a journalist and English speaker.

We now operate six boats and vehicles, able to accommodate up to 200 guests per day. From boat tours on Lake Koman to journeys across northern Albania, we share not only landscapes but also our family’s story — a story of resilience, tradition, and the deep bond between people and nature.

Wild Tour Albania is more than a company. It is our family’s legacy, built on perseverance, and our invitation to you: come discover Albania’s wild heart with us
