The journey itself is almost indescribable; the alpine landscape is dramatic and the turquoise water is hard to believe. Now and again you can spot tiny cottages and farms, which serve as a stark reminder of just how many different ways of life still exist in forgotten corners of Europe like this. The Lake Koman ferry is the epitome of slow travel – you can simply let the scenery change before you as you sail along the lake. It really is pretty magical.
With its dramatic, barren summits and forested vales, glacial springs, and waterfalls, it’s a heavenly place for both humans and animals. In addition to floral diversity, Valbonë Valley is also home to lots of wildlife. This includes brown bears, lynx, chamois, grey wolves, wild goats, and countless bird species.
One of the most famous and beautiful national parks in Albania, Theth National Park, lies in the heart of the Albanian Alps, a veritable outdoor lover’s paradise. It lies in northern Albania, encompassing much of the wonderful Shala Valley, and also features waterfalls, dense woodlands, jagged mountain peaks, rivers, and fascinating rock formations. The park is known for its mythology as the base of 'Kanun' (the laws of the highlands).
Starting in Shkodra at 8:00 in the morning, you will embark on a two-hour vehicle ride up the mountains to Komani. At 10:00, the boat tour begins, giving you the chance to observe wild alpine scenery and relax at the end of the day in a peaceful wooden house by the Shala River. An added bonus is a visit to “Albanian Paradise” Park Blini for food and fun. This is an excellent opportunity to explore Albania’s natural beauty and learn about its rich cultural heritage. On the second day of your trip, prepare for an exciting experience. The day begins with a delicious breakfast served at your guesthouse. Afterward, you will board a boat and navigate through the stunning Albanian fjords to reach Firez harbour. From there, a comfortable bus ride will take you to Valbona Valley where you will be warmly welcomed by locals at your guesthouse, who will have lunch ready for you. In the afternoon, you can enjoy swimming, jumping, relaxing, and capturing memorable photos by the nearby mountain river. The natural beauty of the area is breathtaking, and you won’t want to miss the opportunity to experience it firsthand. In the evening, a wide selection of traditional foods will be served for dinner, including wine, rakia, and other local drinks. Get ready to enjoy a unique culinary experience with local flavors and ingredients perfectly showcased to delight your senses.
This is a message about a fun and exciting adventure! It’s Day 3 and we have a lot planned for you. In the morning, we’ll serve you a delicious breakfast at the guesthouse to give you the energy you’ll need for the 6-hour hike from Valbona to Theth. But don’t worry- we’ve planned for a fantastic lunch stop at the peak where we’ll take some time to catch our breaths, enjoy the scenery, and eat a delicious lunch prepared by the guesthouse (that we’ll carry up ourselves, of course!). After lunch, we’ll continue our hike downhill to Theth for three more hours. Once we’ve arrived in Theth, we have a treat in store- a stay at a local guesthouse where you’ll get to experience traditional Albanian cuisine. We know it will be a long and tiring day, but we promise it will be worth it!
Our itinerary for Day 4 is full of exciting and unique experiences that you won’t want to miss out on! We will take a short hike to the nearby waterfall, which is a stunning natural wonder that will take your breath away. After that, we’ll head over to the ‘blue eye’ canyon, another breathtaking location that is sure to leave you in awe.
But that’s not all – we’ll also visit an old church and a local museum that is actually placed directly on a rock! It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the area’s history and culture. To end the day on a high note, we’ll return to our cozy guesthouse, where a delicious dinner will be waiting for us. And if you’re lucky, you might even see some falling stars and the incredibly bright milky way in the night sky! Trust us, with no city lights to distract from the view, it’s an experience you won’t forget anytime soon.

Finally, on the fifth day of the journey, you’ll transfer from Theth to Shkoder by vehicle, taking in the surrounding scenery one more time before departing.
